Travelling to far flung corners of the world is the starting point for
every Star Mela collection and for Spring/Summer ‘19, co-founder and Creative Director, Amanda spent 10 days in majestic Rajasthan.
I’ve spent years travelling to India I’ve been more times than I can count. The strong fabric of tradition, aesthetic and artistry is really like no where else.
On this particular trip we visited Rajasthan (literally ‘the land of kings’) and travelled between Jaisalmer, Jodhpur and Jaipur, taking inspiration from the detailed carved forts and havelis, the charming hand painted signs and tuk tuks to the intricate textiles of the Banjara.
I’m always searching out exquisite handicrafts and Rajasthan is a treasure trove of trinkets and embellished textiles. The most beautiful pieces are old – I love the idea that they have a history. It’s inspiring to think of the craftsmanship that has gone into the making of something special, which has been carefully and lovingly worn for years.
People write about the sensory overload you get when you visit India. The craziness, the visual riot of colours, smells and sounds. It is all those things but there is also a great kindness and calmness to it. It has a deep rooted connection to nature and spirituality – yoga. meditation and Ayurveda are a way of life. It really has it’s own special Karma.
